For UK (Home) Students
Oxford supports UK students through government-backed loans:
1. Undergraduate Students (Tuition & Maintenance Loans)
• Tuition Fee Loan: Covers full tuition, paid directly to Oxford.
• Maintenance Loan: Helps with living costs; amount depends on household income and where you study.
• How to Apply:
• Apply via Student Finance England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland, depending on where you’re resident.
• Oxford’s Government Support page provides guidance and contact details.
2. Postgraduate Students (Master’s & Doctoral)
• Master’s Loan: Up to £12,858 (England) can help with tuition and living expenses; paid in three instalments over the academic year.
• Doctoral Loan: Up to £30,301 available to doctoral candidates from England or Wales.
• Apply via your regional student finance body (e.g., Student Finance England). Oxford provides detailed support information.
3. Hardship Assistance (Oxford-Provided)
• Oxford Assistance Fund (OAF): For short-term help with living costs, typically available for UK-home students but may also support others in unforeseen circumstances—up to ~£3,000.
For International Students (Non-UK)
Oxford does not offer UK government loans to most international students, but there are still some options:
1. US Federal Student Loans
• If you’re a US citizen, you may be eligible to borrow from federal US student loan programs (like Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized and Parent PLUS).
• Loans vary by year and dependency status.
2. Home Country Loans or Sponsorship
• Oxford encourages applicants to check for funding from their home governments or sponsor organizations.
3. University and College Grants (For Hardship)
• Oxford Assistance Fund (OAF): International students in unexpected financial difficulty may apply for hardship awards, up to ~£8,000 in rare cases.
• African Graduate Support Fund: Provides up to £2,000 for current graduate students from Africa.
