Ghana has over 40 public Colleges of Education that train teachers for basic schools. Here’s a complete step-by-step guide on how to apply for teacher training colleges in Ghana.
1. Check the Entry Requirements
Before starting your application, ensure you meet the minimum requirements:
•WASSCE Holders:
•Credit passes (A1–C6) in six (6) subjects:
•Three core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science/Social Studies.
•Three electives from any programme (General Arts, Science, Business, Agriculture, Vocational/Technical).
•SSSCE Holders:
•Credit passes (A–D) in six (6) subjects, including three core and three electives.
•General Entry Age: Applicants must be 16 years and above.
2. Buy an Application Voucher (E-Voucher)
Applications are done online via the Colleges of Education Ghana Admission Portal: https://admission.coeportal.edu.gh
•Purchase the e-voucher from:
•Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB)
•Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG)
•Agricultural Development Bank (ADB)
•Or via mobile money options (MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo).
The e-voucher comes with a serial number and PIN for login.
3. Complete the Online Application Form
•Visit admission.coeportal.edu.gh
•Enter your serial number and PIN.
•Fill in:
•Personal details
•Educational qualifications
•Programme of choice (General, Early Childhood, or JHS specialization)
•Choice of 3 Colleges of Education in order of preference.
•Upload a recent passport-size photograph.
4. Submit and Print Your Application
•Review all information carefully before submission.
•Submit online and print a copy of the completed form for reference.
5. Wait for SMS/Email Notification
•Applicants will be contacted via SMS and/or email if shortlisted.
•You may be invited for an interview at your first-choice college.
6. Attend the Interview (If Required)
•The interview will assess your communication skills, confidence, and motivation for becoming a teacher.
•Go with the following documents:
•Original and photocopies of results slips
•Birth certificate/National ID
•Application printout
7. Admission and Fees Payment
•Successful applicants will receive an admission letter via the portal.
•Pay the required admission/acceptance fees at the designated bank.
•Report to your college with payment receipts and documents for registration.
